The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Lahore, will hold a one-day coordination conference at the Allama Iqbal International Airport here on June, 17 to discuss the problems of environmental pollution at the airport caused by birds. A CAA spokesman disclosed this here on Monday.
Moreover, he said that there has been a substantial increase in the number of bird-related air accidents in the recent times, which have caused huge losses to the airlines, adding that the incidents could cause a big air crash and loss to human lives in future.
The following issues will be covered in the meeting, which include; ways to overcome environmental pollution along with factors creating attraction for birds, to get rid of the places being source of bird feeding, water ponds around airports, removal of bird nests from the airport surroundings, poultry farms, fish farms and slaughter houses providing friendly environment to birds.
Furthermore, he said that the conference would also discuss steps the CAA had taken so far in collaboration with the Pakistan Army, Air Force, City District Government and various civic agencies to overcome these issues. He said the steps being taken by Civil Defence Department, such as bird shooting, use of crackers, use of sounds to keep birds away from the runway etc will also be considered during meeting.
