Law and Justice Minister Farooq H. Naek on Monday said it was Parliament's prerogative to impeach a president in accordance with the Constitution.
Addressing a public hearing (Khuli Khutchery) here at the Pakistan People's Party Central Secretariat, flanked by Chaudhry Manzoor Hussain and Amir Fida Paracha, the minister also said the proposed constitutional package was not a 'final' document.
The draft was open to changes in the light of suggestions from the allied parties, he said. He said the Pakistan People's Party had invited political parties and law experts, including Asma Jhangir to make their suggestions. In response to a question, he said Pakistan People's Party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and the Central Executive Committee (CEC) would contemplate over the charge-sheet announced by PML-N leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan against the President.
The minister on the occasion issued immediate orders after listening to people problems. He said during the last regime employees of different departments were dismissed without any reason and false cases were registered against them. Earlier, Chaudhry Manzoor Hussain vowed to hold public hearing in every district of the four provinces to resolve the problems of masses at their doorstep. He said public hearings are being organised not for the PPP workers but also for the common man.
Chaudhry Manzoor assured full support to the 1,040 dismissed employees of Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC). These employees were inducted during the Benazir Bhutto government in 1994, but were dismissed after the dissolution of her government. The Supreme Court had restored 1,200 employees, but the cases of 1,040 employees were still pending in the court.
