Pakistan Dairy Development Company (PDDC) and University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF) have signed MoU for livestock development in Pakistan. The MoU signing ceremony was held at National Institute of Food Science and Technology.
Professor Iqrar Ahmad Khan Vice Chancellor, UAF and Geoff Walker CEO, Pakistan Dairy Development Company signed the agreement. According to details, PDDC and UAF to co-operate in multidisciplinary problem oriented research. The object of the agreement is to establish benchmarks and suggest recommendations to farmers regarding selected plant science, animal husbandry and microbiological components of dairy production.
PDDC will identify research topics, experimental sites throughout Pakistan students will complete studies on the selected topics under guidance from faculty members of UAF and experts from within PDDC.
The MoU also reveals that PDDC will meet the agreed expenses of direct inputs such as seeds, fertilisers, chemicals and consultation. Reasonable travelling and accommodation for the scientists/students involved will be borne by PDDC. In response, UAF will provide basic infrastructure wherever possible, such as farms, livestock, laboratories and academic expertise.
A mutual understanding was also been made to produce an accurate and reliable data analysis and presentation of results which are relevant to PDDC's needs, thesis write-up based on research will be supervised by a committee on which PDDC will have one member.
Both organisations expressed their willingness to accept placement of student interns to work with PDDC staff in short-term roles appropriate to students' course of study and in line with PDDC requirements. The ceremony was attended by DG, NIFSAT Professor Faqir Muhammad Anjum, Manager Regulatory Affairs, Nestle Pakistan Ltd Dr Farhat Jameel, Deputy Director General (Health), Nutrition Wing, Ministry of Health, Islamabad, Registrar UAF Chaudhry Muhammad Hussain, Treasurer Abdul Ghafoor Khan, Dean, Faculty of Science Professor Muhammad Ashraf, Dean Faculty of Agriculture Professor Iftikhar Ahmad Khan and faculty members of the institute.
