Pakistan People's Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday said that establishment of working relationship between Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) in Sindh was taking time.
"Establishment of working relationships with the MQM is taking time but I, Altaf Bhai and Asfandyar Wali Sahib have decided to stay together," Zardari said while talking to journalists at Karachi Press Club.
Asif Ali Zardari visited Karachi Press Club on Thursday, during which he was flanked by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan, Minister for Information Shazia Marri, Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza, Education Minister Peer Mazharul Haq, Law Minister Ayaz Soomro, Makhdoom Jamil-uz-Zaman and other members of Sindh cabinet.
Zardari said he chaired a meeting of coalition partners in Sindh on Thursday at CM House and taken important decisions. To a question regarding the ongoing power struggle between Sindh and city governments, he said it was part of a democratic process but by and large the coalition in Sindh was going very well. Zardari declared Karachi as the city of all, adding PPP-led coalition would undertake unprecedented developmental projects in the metropolis.
Responding a query about lawyers' Long March, he said his government had learnt from its own experiences and it had the "road map" to strengthen democracy and the judiciary. "We believe in the system, in independent judiciary, democracy and the supremacy of parliament and we will strengthen the democracy and the judiciary," he added. He said that the deposed judges would be reinstated, but there was a difference in the approach to do the same.
Zardari recalled that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Mian Nawaz Sharif had made it clear to him from the very outset that he could part ways with the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) if the latter failed to restore the judges. "We already agreed to disagree, but this does not mean that he has left us alone," he claimed.
Regarding the deteriorating law and order situation, he said the 60-years' mess could not be cleared within 60 days and things would improve by the passage of time. He directed Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza to share his performance on law and order with media after every three months. Responding to a question about US-led forces' attack on a Pak border post, Pakistan People's Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari condemned the incident, saying that it was against the international law. "It was a condemnable act as we are a sovereign state and has absolute right on our territory," he added.
