Tusdec plans teachers' training institute

Technology Upgradation and Skill Development Company (Tusdec) is planning to set up Pakistan Skills Training and Research Institute (PSTRI) to upgrade technical and vocational education of teachers by updating their contemporary training skills.
According to Tusdec spokesman, the project aims at providing long-term training programmes spanning a period of minimum nine months after which trained staff could pursue their bachelors and master degrees in TVET.
According to a Navtec survey, Pakistan has 16,000 TVET teachers for technical and vocational education at secondary and higher secondary level, while the number of youth taking technical education after school is just three percent against over 70 percent in the European Union and 40 percent in Korea. At the planned institute, technical courses coupled with pedagogical courses will be taught.
