National ICT R&D Fund has offered 550 fully funded four-year Bachelors degree (BS) scholarships in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and its related disciplines to encourage the talent of rural areas of the country.
All scholarships are on merit basis, whereby students of selected government colleges, who have either appeared in or passed their FSc in 2007 or 2008 with Mathematics and Physics as their elective subjects, shall be eligible to apply for the said scholarships.
National ICT R&D Fund has to date funded 590 Bachelors degree scholarships worth Rs 800 million. It has also imparted 'Foundation Training' to 9,100 students and trained 880 teachers from Rural/Non-metropolitan areas, in modern pedagogical techniques.
Moreover, National ICT R&D Fund was established in 2006 by the Ministry of Information Technology and has been mandated to transform Pakistan's economy into a knowledge based economy.-PR
