NWFP Minister for Information, Mian Iftikhar Hussein on Friday dispelled the impression of the violation of the peace agreement with the local militants of Swat by the provincial government.
"We are very abiding the peace agreement and have clear stand over the matter. The misunderstanding over deadlock over the negotiations would be removed shortly," he announced on the floor of the provincial assembly in response to questions raised Haji Zahir Shah and Maulvi Obaidullah MPAs.
Regarding the demand of the militants regarding the release of their supporters from prisons, Hussein, who is also spokesman of the provincial government, said that they are studying the cases one by one. He said that the government has already released 15 people while the review of others was in progress.
He said that they are abiding the agreement by 100 percent, adding that for the sake of the restoration of peace they are ready to talk to any one. In this connection, he said the provincial government would not hesitate from initiating any kind of step.
The minister said that the peace agreement signed with militants and Sufi Mohammad of Tehrik-e-Nifaz-e-Shariah Mohammadi (TNSM) has helped improved security situation in the province. He said that the ample proof of the good result of the agreement is the enthusiasm of the people in the campaign for the by-elections in valley Swat.
He further urged federal government to include the leadership of the coalition government in the peace negotiations in the tribal belt. Earlier, Senior Minister Bashir Ahmad Bilour also dispelled the impression that militants are knocking the door of the provincial metropolis, saying that Peshawar was facing no such problem. "The situation is under complete control of the government and no Taliban activity is going in the city," claimed Bilour.
He further said that the government will neither accept any Taliban movement in the settled areas and nor would ready for talking to them. The matter was earlier raised by Maulvi Obaidullah from Kohistan, who expressed concern over the reports about abolition of the peace agreement. He urged the government to implement the demands of the militants for restoration of peace in the province.
Haji Zahir Shah of Pakistan Muslim League-Q also urged the government for the acceptance of the longstanding demand of the enforcement of Islamic Shariah laws in the Malakand region and introduction of Nizam Adle regulations in the area.
