The Psychology Department of Government College University (GCU), Lahore has won the British research award, the Prime Minister's Initiative for International Education, under which the university will receive funding for its research project.
The British Council project manager described the quality of the bids put in by various universities as high, adding that the university was selected from among an overwhelming number of applicants. The Psychology Department will receive funding for its project titled "cross-cultural analysis of expressed emotions construct in families of schizophrenic patients: development of cultural norms and counselling strategies".
The award is a two-year funding programme (2008-2010) for collecting data and carrying out research in Pakistan. Department's Chairperson Dr Kausar Sohail has said that data will also be collected from Britain, if ethical permission is obtained from British authorities, for comparing it with the information gathered locally.
