Strong and stable Afghanistan is in the best interest of Pakistan as well as the region, said General Tariq Majid, Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), here on Friday. General Majid was talking to Commander of International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) General David McKiernan, who called on him at Joint Staff Headquarters here.
The ISAF Commander exchanged views with the JCSC Chairman, focusing on the mutual cooperation and current security environment in the region. Stressing the need for joint efforts, aimed at establishing peace in the region, General Tariq Majid reiterated the commitment of Pakistan to support international efforts in Afghanistan, and said that Pakistan wanted to build a strong and stable Afghanistan as good neighbourhood was must for economic growth.
He stressed on the need to develop trust-based relations at all levels amongst the coalition partners and to comprehensively understand the prevailing dynamics. Pakistan was following a comprehensive strategy based on political engagement and socio-economic development, backed by essential military force to combat the militancy, he added. General David Mckiernan expressed condolence for the death of 11 Pakistani soldiers due to the coalition firing from across the border and regretted the incident.
