Expressing strong desire of Pakistan for quick resolution of outstanding issues with India, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said both countries should seize opportunity provided by existing positive environment. He was speaking at a dinner reception hosted by Pakistan High Commissioner Shahid Malik here last Friday night.
Among prominent figures, who attended the dinner were Indian External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, former prime minister I.K. Gujral, Union Ministers, members of Parliament, senior government officials, businessmen, media persons and elite of the city. Noting that all political players in both the states and the people are supporting the peace process, he said: "This is the right environment to move forward".
Peace and stability in South Asia will ensure economic and social development of the people. "If we fail to grab this opportunity, we will be losers," he added. "The governments have to translate it (environment) into practical steps," he said, adding Pakistan wants result-oriented and meaningful dialogue with India to carry forward peace process.
"I have come with a realistic agenda and strong desire to move forward", Qureshi said, adding this message has been conveyed to Indian leaders during his meetings with them. "We are close to resolve Siachen, resolution of Sir Creek is possible", he said, adding liberalization of visa regime and promotion of trade can benefit the peoples of both the nations.
