Pakistan Bar Council, while announcing to continue to protest for reinstatement of the judges, sought proposals from its members on proposed constitutional package to consider the same in next PBC meeting.
The bar announced that weekly rallies and hunger strike camps would be held as per earlier decisions of PBC and held that no body other than PBC is authorised to take any decision about the movement.
The PBC vice chairman Said ur Rehman after the meeting here said the copy of the constitutional package was provided to the council a day before the meeting therefore it was decided to discuss it after seeking proposals. The federal law minister Farooq H Naek on Friday had handed over the copy of proposed package to the bar members and announced a grant of Rs 50 million.
Vice Chairman Rehman said the constitutional package drafted by PPP is merely a proposal not a final document and added the lawyers would also make their own proposal.
While commenting on the grant of Rs 50 million he said it had no connection with lawyers' movement as it was the right of PBC. He said the grant was given on regular basis in the era of democratic government but was withheld since 1998.
Responding to a question, he said next meeting of PBC would be convened soon to evolve the future line of action. The PBC also approved the annual budget in the meeting. Besides PBC vice chairman, Amdad Ali Awan, Raja Shafqat Abbasi, Hafiz Abdur Rehman Ansari, Kazim Khan, Hamid Khan, Sardar Latif Khan Khosa, Dr Khalid Ranjha, Pervaiz Inayat Malik, Asharaf Wahla, Mirza Aziz Akbar Baig, Mian Asrar ul Haq, Abdul Hakim Kundi, Rashid A Rizvi, and Ramzan Chaudhruy also attended the meeting.
