'Protest camp' removed: PML-Q MPA named leader of opposition in Punjab Assembly
The Pakistan Muslim League-Q on Saturday removed its "protest camp," set up in the Punjab Assembly premises against the non-issuance of notification of the leader of the opposition in the provincial assembly.
MPA Chaudhry Zaheedr-u-Din of PML-Q, who was nominated as the leader of the opposition by the PML-Q in the Punjab Assembly, told reporters that they were removing its protest camp, but the PML-Q legislators would continue boycott of the Punjab Assembly proceedings till the issuance of notification of the leader of the opposition in the Punjab Assembly. He said that the PML-Q had fulfilled all the legal requirements, but the notification was not being issued, which was deplorable.
It may be mentioned that the PML-Q forward block members are also demanding that their nominee may be notified as leader of the opposition in the Punjab Assembly. Punjab Assembly Speaker had already asked the leaders of both the PML-Q and the PML-Q forward block to show their strength so that notification of the leader of the opposition in the Punjab Assembly could be issued.
The PML-Q boycotted the budget session of the Punjab Assembly and cut motions tabled by the party MPAs were rejected in the absence of movers. The PML-Q legislators told Business Recorder that the coalition government in Punjab was delaying the issuance of notification of the leader of the opposition in the Punjab Assembly and it seemed that it was afraid of the opposition.
They said the leaders of the opposition in the other provincial assemblies had already been notified, but in Punjab the office of the leader of the opposition was still lying vacant. "The PML-Q legislators wanted to play their constructive role in the Provincial Assembly, but hurdles are being created in their way", they said. The ruling collation in Punjab should realise the situation and give up its un-democratic approach, they added.
