The Sindh Secretary, Women Development, Gul Muhammad Umrani has handed over a cheque of Rs 5 Lakh to the Pro-Vice Chancellor, University of Sindh (SU), Dr Rafia Ahmed Shaikh for the Institute of Women Development Studies on Saturday. Umrani informed that the Minister could not visit the SU because of her busy schedules due to Assembly Session, however, has assured of her visit soon.
Umrani further, informed that department of Women Development of Sindh Government is dealing with 50 percent population of the province that are women and has launched many educational, welfare and development programmes to improve their lifestyle.
He informed that the amount of Rs 5 lakh handed over to the SU under the Gender Reform Action Program (GRAP) will be used for purchasing books and other accessories for girl students.
The department has also handed over a cheque of Rs 5 lakh to the University of Karachi for the same purpose. In addition, he said that the SU's Women Development Institute is important for the government as it was working to help the women of rural areas. Umrani also said that graduates of the institutes would be absorbed in the department as it is producing human resources for future women development plans.
'At present only few women are working in this department while the department is planning to recruit more women graduates from the institute to work for the women development', he added. Also the department is ready to purchase books and scripts written on women development to get benefit for the Sindh womenfolk.
Most importantly, he said that department of Women Development Government of Sindh is future employer of the graduates of the institute and hoped that the SU academicians and think tank would help in women development and would give feedback for the guidance.
The Pro-VC, SU, on behalf of the VC expressed thanks to the Provincial Minister, Touqir Fatima Bhutto for her keen interest in women development. She said that the Minister of Women Development would soon be invited to deliver a lecture on women development.
Dr Shaikh also lauded the efforts of Women Development Department and assured that the institute would provide all out help for the welfare of Women of Sindh.
