The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has planned to take stern action against the manufacturers of baked items without having the expiry date that may also pose threat to human health.
"During the monitoring campaign, it was observed with great concern that manufacturers of baked items like bread, cake, rusks, and sandwiches are manufactured and sold without having expiry date on their packing which is mandatory," said Senior Director Health Services, Dr Saeed Ahmed here Saturday.
He said during the campaign, the rapid task force of the Authority raided shops and markets, bakeries etc and collected 146 food samples, 27 milk samples and 14 water samples. During the campaign, as many as 60 health cards were issued and 236 people were vaccinated, he said.
Due to sub-standard quality of food items, the task force issued 160 challans and 172 notices to different shopkeepers for improvement in state of cleanliness, hygiene conditions and food quality. Dr Saeed also warned all bakers and manufacturers of baked items to display date of expiry of the item prominently; otherwise strict action would be taken under Pure Food Law and Municipal By-laws.
