The Investigation Police, Gulberg have arrested notorious criminal Azam Ali involved in many dacoity, robbery and snatching cases seized 17 cell phones, one motorcycle and illegal weapons from him. The police sources informed Business Recorder that the accused, during an early investigation, has confessed to his involvement in 22 such crime incidents.
He also admitted shooting Lieutenant Colonel, Riaz Azeem while attempting to snatch mobile phone in Gulberg area with one of his accomplice, Imran Khan that left the army officer dead on May 9, 2008.
As per details, the DIG Investigation, Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhaira directed the SP Investigation, Modal Town, Rai Ijaz Ahmed to curb crimes in Modal Town limits and formed a special team comprising the SPO and Incharge Investigation Gulberg. The team arrested on a tip-off arrested Ali on Wednesday.
The criminals also snatched a luxury jeep from Ghulab Devi Hospital on May 21, 2008. Later, Khan was killed during a police encounter in Ghalib Market area and was identified with the help of cell-phone that they snatched from the late army officer while Ali managed to flee.
Khan was wanted in 25 cases filed against him in different police stations while cases against Ali stands 21. The Capital City Police Officer, Muhammad Pervez Rathore has announced cash prizes and commendatory certificates for the raiding police team.
