Wohaib Football Club and Bata Star qualified for the semi-final of the NBP Lahore District Soccer Championship 2008 after defeating Shining Football Club and Nishat Club in quarter-finals. The final will be played on July 5 (Saturday) at Old Campus Ground. Hamza Shahbaz Sharif MNA, will be chief guest on the occasion.
Wohaib Club, formed by former PFF Secretary Hafiz Salman Butt in early 80s, thrashed lowly rated Shining Football Club 3-0. All the goals emerged in the first session. Spearhead Shahbaz landed the opener in the 7th minute, followed by winger Waheed Murad's strike in the 23rd minute. Midfielder Joji completed the rout three minutes from interval. There was no goal in second session.
Meanwhile, Bata Star Football Club staged recovery to beat Nishat Football Club 4-2 on tie-break after 1-1 at Old Campus Ground, Chauburji. Nishat went up through Nadeem in the 32nd minute but Bata neutralised the lead through midfielder Fahad. During tie-breaker, Bata put up fine show to win penalty shoot-out. The matches were supervised by Rauf Bari, Waheed Murad, Muhammad Shams, Muhammad Irfan, Liaquat Shah and Iqbal.
