The Azadari Council Punjab on Friday staged a peaceful rally leading from the Lahore Press Club to the Faisal Chowk, protesting against Dr Asrar's controversial remarks on Hazarat Ali (RA) in a television programme.
Religious scholars from Sunni and Shia sects addressed the rally condemning the statement and demanded that the government should ban such controversial speakers from appearing on television programmes and making public speeches.
They said Muslims of all sects equally respect Hazarat Ali (RA) and no one could ever think of making such remarks about the great personality of Islam. Also they criticised the federal and provincial governments for failing to condemn Dr Asrar for making such remarks. Later, the protestors held a sit-in demo at the Faisal Chowk on Mall Road.
