The death toll in the Sunday's Melody suicide bombing reached 21 as two more injured Hasanat of Police, Special Branch, and an unidentified civilian breathed their last in the hospital on Monday.
A case has been registered in Aabpara Police Station against unknown persons under Anti-Terrorist Act, Explosives Act and murder and attempt to murder, and investigation has been started. The government has constituted a joint investigation team, headed by Inspector-General of Police, Islamabad, Azhar Gardezi.
Investigators have collected spot evidence and samples of the explosives used in the bombing. There has been no claim of responsibility, but officials said they were examining a range of possibilities as far as the culprits are concerned, including Lal Masjid's former students.
Police sources said that head and other parts of a body were recovered from the scene and efforts were being made for head surgery to bring the face in shape for proper identification. The sketch of the suicide bomber will be released after completion of the surgery, they added. They said that the age of suicide bomber was between 17 and 20 years, while more than 10 kg explosive material was in the belt he detonated. They said that forensic experts from Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had collected samples and sent to the Forensic Laboratory for tests.
