Punjab government has taken stern security measures and put the province on high alert after following Sunday's bomb blast, which claimed 17 lives. The sources told Business Recorder on Monday that after the Sunday blast, the Punjab Home Department has instructed all concerned departments, including the Punjab Police, to be vigilant and ready to deal with any untoward situation.
Moreover, officials of police department and other concerned law and security departments have been busy to discuss matters of security concern. Furthermore, sources said that the Home Department has been constantly in co-ordination with the intelligence agencies, they added. However, the law and security personnel have already put on high alert since the operation started in the tribal region as the provincial government had received intelligence reports that Lahore may also be the next target of terrorist attacks after the operation in the tribal areas.
"Also, after the Sunday blast, the Interior Ministry had directed the Punjab government, particularly, to beef up security, on which the Punjab Police made foolproof security arrangements. The concerned police officials have been directed to carry out round-the-clock patrolling and checking of hotels, guesthouses, railway stations, bus terminals and other important and sensitive areas in the provincial cities," they added.
The sources also disclosed that the security arrangement by the Punjab Civil Secretariat had been given to the Punjab Home Department, whereas in the past Welfare Wing of Punjab Services and General Administration Department was responsible for it.
