Provincial Labour Minister Amir Nawab Tuesday said that poverty is one of the major factors for child labour and children are not admitted to schools because of this factor. He said child labour is also getting boost in Sindh because of dismemberment of families and the tragedies taking place one after the other.
He made these observations while chairing a meeting at SESSI Head Office in relation to Child Labour and Women workers. The meeting was organised by Directorate of Labour Sindh. The minister called for devising a strategy to make the law and ordinance regarding child labour and women workers more effective and implementation of which may produce clear results.
He pointed out that children of today are the builders of tomorrow and the kind of education these children need to make them useful citizens of the society has no relevance to hard labour. Amir Nawab said Pakistan's constitution does not permit children and women to be subjected to hard labour. He emphasised upon promoting primary education and technical training to eliminate child labour. He called for holding seminars and workshops to create greater awareness in the society against child labour.
