The government is striving hard for improving power distribution system to get rid of load shedding within the next couple of years. Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco), Ahmad Saeed Akhtar expressed these views in "Guest in studio" programme organised by FM-103 Radio here on Tuesday.
He said that construction of new dams would not only help provide cheap electricity, but also give additional water for irrigation. Furthermore, he said that two rental power plants are also under construction in this region that would help in overcoming the shortage of power supply, adding that the government is working very hard to increase power generation on war footings and it would help to get rid of load shedding by 2009.
He said that Fesco has also arranged a load management schedule (LMS) in consultation with trade, industrial and domestic consumers to minimise the negative impact of load shedding.
He said that Fesco was also taking measures to redress the genuine public complaints by reactivating complaint centres in addition to providing a toll free number 0800-66554 to receive public complaints round the clock. Appreciating the consumers of the region he said that power pilferage in this city was minimum while the consumers are also paying 100 percent billing.
To a question, Ahmad Saeed Akhtar opposed the use of UPS and said it consumes five times more electricity and provides only one unit which is a sheer wastage of electricity. Mian Javaid Iqbal chief executive Sittara Energy Limited also addressed the function and said that every sugar mill in Pakistan could produce two to three megawatts electricity. Hence, the government should chalk out a strategy to avail from this facility in addition to the construction of new dams to overcome the prevailing energy crisis.
