Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has taken strict notice of the fact that most of closed circuit cameras installed in the city for monitoring the activities of anti-social elements were out of order and directed the Punjab IGP to undertake immediate repair of all close circuit cameras in the provincial metropolis.
He also directed the IGP to ensure patrolling of Elite Force in trade centres and sensitive areas in addition to police for promoting a sense of protection among citizens. He issued these instructions while presiding over a meeting at Chief Minister Secretariat here on Tuesday which reviewed the overall law and order situation in the province.
Punjab Law Minister Rana Sana Ullah, CM's Advisor Jehanzeb Barki, Punjab home secretary, Punjab IGP, and senior officers of other law-enforcement agencies were also present on the occasion.
Shahbaz said that close circuit cameras had been installed in the city to identify as well as keep an eye on the activities of criminals, but it was lamentable that most of these were not in operational condition due to which the purpose of the whole exercise had been defeated. Referring to the incident of burglary at Barkat Market the other day, he pointed out that all close circuit cameras installed at the spot were out of order and out of the four security guards deputed at the place, only one was present.
The chief minister directed Punjab IG Police to undertake repair of all close circuit cameras installed in the city with the assistance of trade community and ensure presence of the required security guards at all commercial banks and other trade and business centres. He also directed thwe IGP that SHOs should have a complete record of all residents of their respective area as well as their tenants and they should keep these particulars updated.
He warned that such SHOs will not be spared in whose area evidence of stay of any person involved in terrorist activities was found. The chief minister further directed to improve the system of mobile checking and patrolling instead of erecting permanent pickets and said that Elite Force should be used for its main objective. He ordered that patrolling of Elite Force should also be started in sensitive areas and trade and business centres to promote a sense of safety among the citizens.
Meanwhile, Shahbaz Sharif has directed Ulema Board Chairman Sahibzada Fazal Karim to hold a meeting with Ulema of all schools of thought for promoting mutual understanding and harmony between followers of different sects.
