According to press reports Pakistan's ace philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi has opened another chapter of Abdul Sattar Edhi Foundation called "Free Food for the Poor".
As per the details of the project he has set up 326 Edhi centres in the country where free food will be provided to the destitute, orphans and other needy people. Equally good thing about the new scheme is that it has been inaugurated by none other than Mr Pervez Musharraf, President of Pakistan, who also donated Rs 100,000 from his own pocket to this noble cause.
As a matter of fact Pakistan has always been regarded as a country with a lot of potential. As a land of opportunities, it does not lag behind in any field right from its natural resources to the human resource sector. Even though it is a pity that we have not been able to tap our natural resources to the fullest, however, in the field of human resource some Pakistanis with their own efforts have won their spurs in their respective fields and have really made us a proud nation.
That is why, with a great degree of satisfaction Pakistan can rightly boast of being a land of sterling personalities like Dr A.Q. Khan, Dr Abdul Salam, Imran Khan and Abdul Sattar Edhi.
In this elite panel of great Pakistanis Abdul Sattar Edhi and Imran Khan stand out as great philanthropists and social workers. If Edhi has devoted himself to alleviate the hardships of the poor and the needy, Imran Khan has taken upon himself a challenging task of providing education and health services to the needy ones.
There is no doubt about the fact that these two individuals have gone a long way in fulfilling the needs of the deserving poor and the ailing people of this country. One hopefully believes that a day will come when their grand efforts and noble contribution would be acknowledged by the highest world bodies at international level too.
