General public, government employees and people living in diplomatic enclave have suffered due to heavy security measures taken by the government in view of lawyers rally.
Government had closed Constitution Avenue for vehicular traffic and even pedestrians were not allowed to cross this road as heavy contingents of Rangers, police and other law enforcement agencies were deployed early in the morning on Thursday.
The lawyers rally was organised on the call given by Rawalpindi and Islamabad Bar Associations and lawyers of Rawalpindi division and Islamabad marched from Rawalpindi District Courts to Supreme Court of Pakistan to protest against the government's failure in restoration of deposed judges.
On reaching Constitution Avenue they were not allowed to cross the barricades but the protestors removed obstacles and reached the Supreme Court where they held a rally peacefully.
People who crossed the Constitution Avenue on either side early in the morning remained stranded and could not go back to their houses or offices, as security personnel not allowed them, which caused problems for the common people. Many people were seen sitting on roadsides waiting the end of the rally for going back to their homes or offices.
Meanwhile, Rehman Malik, Advisor to Prime Minister on Interior praised the lawyers for holding this peaceful rally saying that the lawyers leaders were in constant touch with him and he allowed them holding the rally if they remain peaceful. "They assured me that they wold not go towards D-Chowk and remain in front of the Supreme Court and they kept their word", Malik said while talking to reporters.
