Federal Flood Commission Chairman Dr I.B Sheikh has said the coalition government was making all out efforts for safeguarding lives and properties of the people through providing maximum relief to the poor in flood situation.
Talking to PTV, he said there was a vast scope and potential for development and construction of more multipurpose water, hydro and flood control schemes. The federal government, he assured, would provide all possible resources for implementation of flood management measures, the equipment and facilities will ensure the accuracy of flood forecasting and expand the transmission network of flood warning during floods, overall system is normal.
He said the government had completed major improvements in flood forecasting sector through upgradation of weather radars at Lahore and Sialkot besides installation of a latest radar system at Mangla to monitor the River Jhelum catchments. The radars will be operative during the forthcoming flood season.
Some of the equipment and facilities provided by the project are master control station, rainfall and water level gauge with automatic recorder, 10 warning posts and data monitoring system, he added. He said Nullah Leh flood forecasting and warning system project had been completed with the financial and technical support of the government of Japan through Japan International Co-operation Agency. The chairman urged for a public awareness campaign to avoid the untoward incident in future.
