Pakistan has rejected the baseless allegations levelled against its intelligence agencies and armed forces by Afghanistan President Hameed Karzai and the Afghan Cabinet. Such baseless accusations serve no purpose other than vitiating bilateral atmosphere and creating an artificial crisis in Pak-Afghan relations, said foreign office spokesman Mohammad Sadiq.
The decision by the Afghan Cabinet to suspend important forthcoming bilateral and regional meetings on such flimsy grounds was regrettable, which ignored the importance of economic co-operation to improve the overall living conditions of the Afghan people and security situation in Afghanistan as well, he added.
Sadiq said, "In Pakistan's view the abiding interests of Pak-Afghan relations and the need for credible partnership in the common struggle against terrorism and militancy should transcend short-term political expediencies and point scoring.
Pakistan hopes that Afghanistan will do some rethinking and desist from such provocative statements and initiation of blame game. Moreover, Pakistan itself is a victim of terrorism and being frontline ally of Nato in war against terror, its forces are fighting terrorists in the tribal belt bordering Afghanistan, he pointed out.
Now it has become a routine matter that whenever any incident take place in Afghanistan. President Hamid Karzai points finger towards Pakistan, he said. On the other hand, the new democratic government of Pakistan has developed a three-pronged strategy, which included dialogue with tribal leaders, development of social infrastructure in the area and use of force wherever necessary to secure permanent peace in the areas of Balochistan and NWFP bordering Afghanistan.
