Rs four million customs duty-evasion unearthed

A credible information was received by Fazal Qadir Qalbani, director, Intelligence & Investigation, FBR, Karachi, that some Islamabad-based importers are involved in clearance of import consignments from Karachi by grossly mis-declaring value and depriving national exchequer of due amount of duty and taxes, says a press release.
In this regard, a team of Directorate's officials mounted strong vigilance at ports and as a result two import consignments consisting of 'camouflage fabric' and 'inedible fancy tallow' were intercepted while ready for clearance.
After detention, thorough investigation was carried out and detection of gross mis-declaration of value/description was unearthed. The total evaded amount of customs duty and taxes has been ascertained to the tune of Rs 4 million. The goods of both the consignments have been seized under the Customs Act, 1969.-PR
