The National Internship Programme (Nip) would induct the fresh batch of unemployed post-graduates in the first week of August, reliable sources informed Business Recorder on Wednesday.
The programme was conceived to give career support to unemployed youths considering the fact that lack of immediate job opportunities develops frustration and depression among educated youth that sometimes drags them towards adventure spoiling their whole career.
This programme will give an opportunity to the post graduate degree-holders to do on job training and research work in their respective area of education. Whenever, a job according to their respective fields is created or a suitable position is vacant, candidates from these interns would have a better chance to get through in the organisation, sources maintained.
The organisation received a total of 71,915 applications and after short-listing, 54,993 were sent to Higher Education Commission (HEC) for further processing said the Director General, Nip, Ashiq Hussain Abbasi. The DG said, after scrutiny a total of 16,924 ineligible applications were rejected of which 7, 826 were overage applicants, 2, 709 applications were with incomplete documents and 6,389 had many duplications.
Among the eligible applicants, 2,5977 were females and 2,9016 males. As many as 803 applicants hail from Islamabad, 27,165 from Punjab, 9,850 from NWFP, 14,689 from Sindh, 646 from Balochistan, 361 from Northern Areas, 823 from Fata and 656 from AJK.
After verification from the HEC and Nadra, the programme management will finalise the selection process and would issued placement letter to the interns subject to their area of specialisation or education, he said. The allocation of funds for this programme is not sufficient, as the government has earmarked Rs 16 billion for this purpose whereas the proposal submitted by the Nip was worth of Rs 3.7 billion, DG explained.
