With a view to promoting local wrestling and for talent hunt, a tournament of "local wrestling" is being arranged on monthly basis while 'Sher-e-Pakistan Dangal' will be held on July 25 at Punjab Stadium Lahore. Punjab Minister for Sports Dr Tanveer-ul-Islam told reporters here on Wednesday that steps have been taken for the promotion of sports activities and a tournament of local wrestling has been launched.
He said that the main bout will be between Bashir Bhola Bhala and Nadir Pahalwan Bahawalpuria. Prize of Rs 100,000/- and Rs 60,000/- will be given to the wrestlers respectively.
Responding to a question, he said that new wrestling arenas would be established. He assured that the existing wresting arenas illegally occupied by certain elements would be retrieved. Secretary Sports Syed Munawar Abbas, D.G Sports Brigadier Farooq Yaqub(Retd), Chairman Task Force for Sports, Ms Niva Usman were also present on this occasion.
