Senate Standing Committee on Interior Chairman Senator Muhammad Talha Mehmood on Wednesday said the government has decided to launch a massive crackdown against private jails all over the country. "We have traced a private jail in Sanghar area of Sindh province from where more than 60 people were recovered," Mehmood said while talking to reporters here on Wednesday.
People who have built private jails to confine innocent people are enemies of humanity and they do not deserve any mercy, he said and added that the law enforcement agencies were asked to launch a massive crackdown to locate more jails.
Mehmood said these people are openly challenging the writ of the government by making their own empires in their respective areas. He added people involved in this heinous crime would be dealt with an iron hand. Terming the holding of private jails a gross human rights violation, Mehmood said that it is responsibility of the state to protect the people from feudals.
To a question regarding military operation in tribal areas, he said some hidden hands are active to sabotage peace and tranquility in these areas. Use of force is no solution to the problem and dialogue should be given a chance, he added.
He said that on many occasions tribal people came forward open-heartedly and peace agreements were signed, but the vested interests sabotaged these efforts. They want to keep tribal areas busy in fighting to damage Pakistan, he added.
Mehmood said these elements are against the development and prosperity of Pakistan. He asked the rulers to understand the nefarious intentions of these elements and frustrate their designs by entering into dialogue and peace agreement with tribal people.
