Out of 3.5 million displaced people, a total of 1,592 are still living in tents even after three years of the earthquake, which hit NWFP and AJK on October 8, 2005.
Briefing the Donors' conference here on Thursday, deputy chairman of the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (Erra), Lieutenant General Sajjad Akram said the authority has devised a policy to house remaining displaced people and tent camps would be abolished after completion of the rehabilitation project. "However, at least one camp will be there to shelter most vulnerable communities especially orphans and hapless people," he added.
He said Erra has launched Interns Volunteer Programme to ensure open as well as transparent functioning, besides transfer of knowledge to the younger generation. The authority has developed fully equipped communication wing to proactively bring all the stakeholders on board.
