A revised writ petition against the increased price of compressed natural gas was filed at the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday. Earlier, the writ petition was filed by Ashfaque Mohammad Chaudhry under Article 199 of the Constitution.
The petitioner had pleaded that CNG is a local production and has nothing to do with the price hike in international market. He said that the increase in its prices was causing great unrest among people who have already been overburdened with price hike of various commodities. He prayed to court to direct the government to bring down CNG prices with an immediate effect.
The petitioner had made Chairman, All Pakistan CNG Association, Islamabad CNG Association, Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDC) and Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum respondents in his petition. On July 12, the IHC Registrar had returned the original petition with certain objections, as the petitioner had not attached required documents including affidavit.
The Registrar Office on Friday said that it has received the new writ petition of Ashfaque Mohammad Chaudhry, but a decision to fix it for hearing or otherwise would be taken on Saturday. Last month a petition regarding increase in petroleum prices was rejected by the IHC.
