Karachi Transport Action Committee (KTAC) and Anjuman-e-Ettehad Bus Malikan Karachi on Sunday demanded of the government to immediately lift the ban on permits from two-stroke rickshaws and take measures to convert two-stroke rickshaws into four stroke. In a joint statement they said that ban on new permits of two-stroke rickshaws was depriving government of tax revenue.
They expressed their concern and said that Sindh Minister for Transport and Secretary Transport, in a recent meeting, had assured them for lifting ban on two-stroke rickshaws in a week, but still there was no progress in this regard. They said that due to lack of route permits three wheelers were compelled to pay bribes to traffic police.
Transporters said that government had vowed to convert around 70,000 two-stroke rickshaws into four stroke on government expenses, but no action was taken in this regard either. They demanded of the government to immediately solve the problems of transporters and provide relief to them.
