The President of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), Aitzaz Ahsan, giving a warning note, said that the time available for the PPP government was just up to August 14 and after that lawyers would be master of their own will and would stage demonstrations leading from Khyber to Karachi.
He told a gathering on Monday at the Karachi Hall of Lahore High Court Bar in connection with 'independence of judiciary day', commemorating the restoration of deposed chief justice Iftikhar Muhamamd Chaudhry, that the PPP could still take credit for restoring the judiciary.
"Time is running out, and after August 14 the game will be no more in the hands of the PPP government and lawyers will take control of roads to tell the government of the mistakes it made despite the Murree Declaration and its promises," he said.
"Time is close when after the restoration of Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry the bar will file first writ petition in the independent court against the unrestrained raise in petroleum prices and dearness of items of daily use. The government will be held accountable in the apex courts for making money out of the miseries of the people."
About the miseries of people he said the prices of wheat (flour) ata, CNG, petrol, diesel, and eatables are going out of reach of common man and they are tormented by frequent power cuts. "The public will forget their miseries for the time being if the PPP government restores the deposed judges," he added.
He warned that if it failed to meet their demand the Grand Trunk Road (GT Road) would be blocked on 10 points and all key national crossings and roads - from Karachi to Khyber - by sit-ins on every Thursday. He said lawyers were united and determined to render any sacrifice for Iftikhar Chaudhry.
He said he was sure that lawyers would compel the government to restore deposed judges including Iftikhar Chaudhry as Chief Justice. He said Chief Justice Pakistan Abdul Hameed Dogar is not able to hold the state institutions answerable by taking suo motou action about uncalled for hike in petroleum prices besides the government have become a puppet in the hands of enemies of the country.
