The Directorate, Customs Intelligence on Monday has destroyed confiscated goods of foreign origin in Sukkur. The Director, Customs Intelligence, Karachi, Fazal Qadir Qalbani said in a briefing to the press and local officers that Pakistan Customs is striving hard through its field formations to unearth evasion of customs duties and taxes in the country with an especial attention to curb the menace of smuggling.
His department in this regard ahs mounted strict vigilance on various custom ports as well as inside the country to ensure that no goods enter or leave through illegal / non-notified routes.
Besides, it was also vigilant to check movement / transportation of contraband goods that not only ruin lives of our youth but also spread corruption in the society. Further, Qalbani lauded the efforts made by the team of Customs Intelligence, Range Office, Sukkur, saying that they have exhibited good professional performance with available limited resources in this regard. If destroyed goods had not been intercepted, they would have played havoc with the lives and ethics of public in general and our youth in particular, he added.
'In order to rout out smuggling from Pakistan that not only deprive national exchequer of its due share of revenue but also lead the society towards disaster, the general public should cooperate with the Directorate of Customs Intelligence in this regard,' he requested.
Moreover, he assured people of maintaining secrecy regarding the information provided by the public and announced reasonable amount of reward to the informers in this connection.
The detail of destroyed goods are: Gutka (Indian Origin) 222 Pkts, Betel Nuts (Foreign Origin) 800 kg, Viagra Tablets (50 mg) 12,520 Strips, (Foreign Origin), (Total 69,000 Tablets), Centrum-High potency 60 Bottles, Multi-Vitamin Tablets (Total 6,000 Tablets), Packing Material / Literature, 21 Cartons of Sexual Medicines, Black Tea (25 Bags) (Foreign Origin) 1,500 kg and 1,300 CDs / DVDs of English and Indian songs. -PR
