Gilani justifies spiralling oil prices

Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has said the spiralling oil prices are a universal problem and they are not limited to Pakistan, pledging that his government will control the inflation by adopting positive policies. His comments came during the opening ceremony of "ideological summer school," organised by the Nazria-e-Pakistan Foundation at the Karkunan-e-Pakistan on Monday.
He claimed that through appropriate planning, power-cuts would end in a year, and credited the previous Pakistan People's Party government for overcoming the power shortages by brining independent power producers to Pakistan. He said it was imperative that the country adopted a long-term planning and this very insight was part of the PPP manifesto to tackle problems in the future.
"The PPP manifesto also includes a plan of improving the socio-economic situation, to be implemented in letter and spirit. Our party is committed to fulfilling the promises made to people and is determined to pursue polices, securing progress and development," he added. On the judges' restoration, he made it clear that their restoration including the judiciary, independence and revival of the 1973 Constitution would be resolved soon.
He also said the government would prepare a uniform education policy, not favouring one-class society and one curriculum would be taught in all schools. He said this would provide equal opportunities of career building to the youth. "Recitation of the national anthem would be made mandatory for all educational institutions," he added.
He then announced Rs 100 million grant for building Aiwan-e-Quaid-e-Azam in Johar Town. Its construction would start soon and he would lay the foundation stone, he said, adding: "We have to comprehend the vision and guidelines of both Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Dr Muhammad Iqbal since our survival lies in it.
"Pakistan was created on the ideology 'Nazria-e-Pakistan,' envisioning Pakistan as a tolerant and progressive society," he said. He assured the government's full support to the Nazria-e-Pakistan Foundation, and lauded the foundation for its efforts to promote national unity and integration, Islamic values and educating the young generation's ideological heritage. He finally held a question-answer session with students. School Principal Dr Rafique Ahmed and Nazria-e-Pakistan Trust Chairman Majid Nizami also spoke.
