The Pakistan Study Centre of Punjab University (PU) on Tuesday organised a lecture on "research issues in social sciences" for its MPhil and PhD scholars. Professor of Political Science, Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) and former chairman of international Relations department, Quaid-i-Azam University, Professor Dr Muhammad Waseem was the key speaker talking about phases of research activities.
He focused on survey techniques, randomisation techniques, under-current of individualism, use of primary and secondary sources, interview techniques, qualitative and quantitative research, interdisciplinary cross fertilisation of ideas and the importance of scientific community and professional associations in an academic discipline.
Moreover, he also told his audience about intellectual loss, because of the absence of these associations in the academic circles of various universities in Pakistan, and regretted that there was no such thing as inter-university collaboration among universities' faculties.
He, further, talked about phases of writing at PhD level and stressed the importance of composition techniques, chapteriation, argumentation, conclusion and originality in the process of doing research. The lecture was followed by a question answer session. Centre Director, Professor Dr Massarrat Abid earlier welcomed and introduced the guest to the audience.
