Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi arrived here on Wednesday at the start of his three-day official visit to the United Kingdom at the invitation of his British counterpart David Miliband. The Foreign Minister who arrived by a regular PIA flight was received at the Heathrow Airport by Pakistan High Commissioner Wajid Shamsul Hasan, Deputy High Commission Abdul Basit and other senior officials of the Chancery.
Qureshi is accompanied by a three-member delegation of the Foreign Ministry comprising Additional Secretary Akbar Zeb, spokesman Muhammad Sadiq and Nur Muhammad Jagmani. In his interaction with the British leadership, the Foreign Minister would aim to promote understanding on issues of mutual interest including the enhancement of trade and commercial ties and access for Pakistani products in Britain and the European markets.
Immediately after his arrival, Qureshi will hold meeting with the Opposition leader David Cameron and Secretary, Communities and Local Government Hazel Blears.
On Thursday, he will deliver a keynote speech at the International Institute of Strategic Studies on 'Imperative for peace and prosperity in South Asia: Pakistan's perspective.' He will also meet Defence Secretary Des Browne and later hold formal talks with David Miliband at the House of Commons. The Pakistan FM will also meet Commonwealth Secretary General Kamlesh Sharma and will then proceed to Birmingham for meeting with the members of Pakistani community along with Miliband.
