All out efforts will be made for the provision of flour (atta) to the public on the prescribed rates of the government and smuggling, hoarding, adulteration and profiteering will not be spared at any cost. This was stated by the Punjab Minister for Food, Malik Nadeem Kamran while addressing a briefing of District Co-ordination Officer, Attock during his visit to the area.
Home Secretary Nadeem Hassan Asif, Inspector General Police Punjab Shoukat Javaid, DCO Attock Captain Saqib Zafar (Retd), DPO Fakahar Wasal Sultan, MPA Shahan Malik and prominent figures were also present on this occasion. The minister said that Chief Minister Punjab has taken strict notice about the fake shortage of wheat, profiteering and smuggling of wheat and flour.
He ordered to take stern action in this regard and said that district administration will provide a complete report on daily basis to the concerned quarters about their initiatives.
Home Secretary Nadeem Hassan Asif directed the district administration to provide Atta at the government rates, ie Rs 365 ex-mill and Rs 375. He directed the administration that any flour mill indulging in profiteering will be sealed and shopkeepers would be thrown behind the bars.
He told that there is no shortage of wheat and atta in NWFP and Balochistan provinces. He directed that all the food staff and police personnel should be appointed on the check posts on weekly basis so that they could not make any liaison between the wheat traffickers. Provincial Minister also visited the food check posts of Attock Khurd and Motorway and inquired the problems faced by the staff of these checkposts.
