In a drive against spurious and substandard drugs, the health department sealed 63 shops and collected Rs 349,000 as fine in the provincial capital during the period from June 1 to July 15. According to health department sources, complying with the directive by the Punjab government, the health department has paced up drive against spurious and substandard drugs in the province.
The drug inspectors of health department raided 755 shops, collected 520 samples of drugs, declared 2 drugs spurious, got registered three cases, detected 37 cases of expired drug cases and sent 43 cases to drug court.
According to monthly break-up, the drug inspectors during the month of June 2008, raided 535 shops, collected 374 samples, sealed 51 shops, detected only one case of substandard medicine, got registered FIR against three offenders, detected 25 expired drug cases, sent 20 cases to drug court, which decided 17 cases and collected Rs 229,000 as fine in the city.
From July 1 to 15, the teams of health department raided 220 shops, collected 146 samples of drugs, sealed 12 shops, detected one case of substandard medicine, sent 23 cases to drug court which decided six cases and collected fine of Rs 120,000, sources added.
