The deposed judge of the Lahore High Court, Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif has said PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari was looking for some guarantors that "deposed" judges will not create any problem for him and President Musharraf after coming back to their offices.
He was addressing a general house meeting of the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) here on Thursday before lawyers' Thursday protest rally for the restoration of judiciary. The deposed judge said the honesty and integrity of the deposed judges is a threat for Zardari and President Musharraf and they have an apprehension in their mind that the deposed judges could restore the cases against them.
He said the PPP leadership including Asif Ali Zardari had no respect for the promises made to the nation hence present government was unable to control the prevailing wave of price hike and lawlessness in the country. He said the country was facing judicial and economic crisis only because politicians forget their promises.
Rejecting the rumours regarding the oath of some of the deposed judges, he said the judges would not disappoint the legal fraternity in any case by accepting any offer of the government although government was trying to create rift between deposed judges.
President LHCBA Anwar Kamal and Secretary Rana Asadullah Khan, Hafiz Abdur Rehman Anwari, Ahmed Awis, Mian Nasir also spoke on the occasion.
Later the lawyers took out rally from the LHC, who were joined by members of Lahore District Bar Association at GPO Chowk, before heading towards Punjab Assembly Chowk. Lawyers set up hunger strike camps and wore black armbands in protest against delay in reinstatement of the deposed judges promised in the Murree Declaration by the sitting government.
They vowed to continue their struggle for the rule of law and reinstatement of chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and other judges, fired by President Musharraf by through November, 3 PCO.
