A sum of Rs 44.63 million was received as Zakat contributions in 2007 by The Patients' Behbud Society for Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) according to audited accounts of the Society released here by M R Monem, Chairman of the Society.
Out of the Society's funds Rs 23.34 million were disbursed to support the hospitalisation and medical cost of 804 patients at AKUH. The collections would help the Society significantly increase its disbursement for the current year, the Chairman said.
The Patients' Behbud Society for AKUH is an independent entity, responsible for collecting and disbursing Zakat to Mustahiqeen undergoing medical treatment at AKUH. The Society is managed by a group of prominent citizens, with its accounts audited annually by A F Ferguson and Co.
