Chinese taste the delicious flavour of Pakistani "Chaunsa" mango, as the fresh fruit is now available in various fruit markets and on the shelves of different departmental stores.
"To start with, we have imported the first consignment of three tons of mangoes from Pakistan and getting good response from Chinese people", said General Manager of Midtrans Commodities International Company, Mohammad Yasin, while talking to media persons here on Thursday.
He said he had over two decades of experience of import, export and sale of foods items from Pakistan and other regional countries, but it was for the first time that he had imported fresh fruit item from Pakistan.
Yasin said: "As we have to face a tough competition from Thailand, Taiwan, Australia and other adjoining countries in marketing Pakistani mangoes here, it will be appropriate that government should provide some assistance in way of subsidising air freight cost to the tune of 50 percent in the initial stage that would enable us to get strong hold in the market."
"I am not demanding the subsidy for a long period, but just in the initial stage so that we could have better presence and the mango is available to the people here at a competitive prize", he noted.
He said he had imported two consignments of three tons of mangoes by air in two phases this month, adding that keeping in view the demand he had also ordered for the import of third consignment. Praising the efforts of the Pakistan Embassy here in providing assistance, he said, "with the co-ordinated effort we can certainly boost the import of mango thus can earn precious foreign exchange for our country.
He said we got good response from the Chinese Companies working in Pakistan as they had given us a good number of orders to distribute mangoes as gift to various friends here in China. Yasin pointed out that for the convenience of customers, we were also providing transportation service in delivering mangoes at the doorstep of the recipients.
To encourage and promote the sale of the fruit further, he suggested that Pakistan mission might also distribute the mangoes as gifts among the Chinese friends and it could also be serve at August 14 function. Midtrans Commodities International is mainly dealing in food items and selling famous Pakistan brands like National Food items here in China that has big demand.
