Commerce Minister Naveed Qamar said here on Saturday that imposition of taxation on industry and trade related business during the current financial year is focused on minimising budget deficit, and to restore the economy. He was talking to members of a delegation of Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), led by its President Muhammad Asif.
He informed the delegation that the government was planning to create special business and industrial zones in various parts of NWFP to bring the province at par with other provinces of the country in terms of economic development. The Minister assured them of the government's all-out support to the Chamber for expanding the size and volume of industrial and commercial development of the province.
He appreciated delegates' individual viewpoint on agri-crops yield and distribution related issues, and added that frequent interaction among all stakeholders would lead to resolution of all pending problems.
The delegation members apprised the Minister about their evaluation of existing financial issues confronting the country in general and Sarhad Chamber in specific and also briefed the minister on business and industry specific problems of NWFP.
Naveed assured the delegation that the government would ensure smooth supply of wheat and other food items to NWFP and stressed upon SCCI to reciprocate by improving its exports in terms of value-addition of its products to enhance foreign exchange reserves and boost national economy.
