Several areas of the city on Wednesday continued to suffer from severe load shedding of electricity from the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) for hours in the aftermath of the first spell of rainfall in the megacity.
Almost all major areas, including F.B Area, Tariq Road, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulstan-e-Jauhar, Malir, North Nazimabad, Saddar Town, Korangi, Defence and North Karachi suffered from power shutdowns of 8 to 10 hours, owing to faults occurring in KESC's generation, transmission and distribution system. The difference between the city's power demand and its supply has gone up 300MW to 350MW, informed sources told Business Recorder on Wednesday.
Kanupp was shut down on Wednesday due to the tripping of KESC transmission lines, resulting in the disconnection of about 85 MW of supply to the city. According to official sources, maintenance work on Kanupp transmission lines has started and it's hoped that the supply of electricity to the city would be resumed shortly.
They said that the fault, which was occurred in extra high-tension lines, has been removed and electricity to almost all affected areas has resumed. Sources said that that the power demand of the city was just 1600MW, owing to monsoon weather and hence no load shedding would be carried out for a day.
