Punjab Food Minister Kamran Nadeem, Secretary Food Rao Iftikhar Ahmed, the Punjab Home Secretary and the IGP on Thursday visited checkpoints set up to counter the smuggling of Atta. They went by helicopter to the checkpoints at Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, Multan, Bhakkar and Sadiqabad under the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif.
Later a meeting was held at Circuit House where officials briefed them about the flour situation in Multan and other areas. District Food Controller Abdul Hafeez Khan said, "we have established 156 sale points in different areas of the district, while 42 points were set-up at Mill-gates where atta is available at Rs 365 per 20 kg bag.
At the mobile sale points however it is available at Rs 375 per bag. He said that the quality and weight of the bags was ensured. Khan added that there was no truth to the news that atta was selling at Rs 475 in Multan.
The official did however mention that only 788 20-kg bags were sold at seven sale points even though 3500 bags were supplied. Furthermore, today 3000 bags were supplied at the sale points of Double Phatak, Daulaty gate, Mumtazabad, Suraj Miani, Chungi No 14 and Jalal Masjid (Gulgasht).
