National Assembly Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza will lead a six member delegation of NA Members to the 54th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association meeting scheduled from August 4 to 10 in Kuala Lumpur. Members of the delegation include Azra Fazal Pucheho, Nafisa Shah, Kashmala Tariq, Dr Talat Iqbal, Mahesar Khurrum Dastgir, and Karamat Hussian Niazi.
The conference will discuss issues on "Expanding the role of Parliament in global society, environment, development and security" through the exchange of opinions for future evolution of parliamentary institutions and capacity building of its members.
The Speaker said she would utilise this opportunity to discuss the role of parliament in conflict resolution and interactions between the legislature and civil society for up to the mark legislation. Dr Mirza was also looking forward to the suggestions and ideas that the delegates will bring up at the conference. The ideas would be incorporated in the declaration to be adopted at the end of the CPA meeting.
