Though the Directorate of Manpower and Training, Labour Department, has started Benazir Bhutto Youth Development Programme in the Sindh, institutes in Badin are yet to start the programme locally forcing frustrated youths to obtain technical training from institutes of other cities.
The purpose of this programme is to provide employment to the youth between 15-18 years of age so that they could find jobs as radio/TV technician, welder, carpenter, electric, refrigeration, painter, mason, AutoCAD, beautician, leather garment and dress making and designing besides giving them other useful training.
The department has advised to submit applications by August 20 and announced preference to female applicants. However, Badin where exists polytechnic institute, commercial training centre and girls' vocational institute is not capable of providing training as per the programme.
Youths studying in these institutions showed their dejection questioned why these institutes have not started the programme that could earn them a secure job opportunity.
They further informed Business Recorder that living under financial constraint, they could not afford to attend institutes offering the programme in other cities of Sindh including Hyderabad and Karachi.
Moreover, girls cannot even move to other cities out of Badin district. The youths also said that since the Sindh government itself has announced positioning below the poverty line, it should start the 'Benazir Bhutto Youth Development Programme' in all institutes of Badin.
