Punjab Assembly in its eighth session on Thursday passed a resolution to do away with powers of president regarding 58(2)B saying that by this he could at will, unlawfully using power, dissolve elected federal as well as provincial assemblies, including enforcement of Governor's rule in the provinces.
The Resolution saying that this tantamount to killing of opinion of the entire nation demanded vesting of the power in federal as well as provincial assemblies of the country.
The Resolution was not supported by opposition benches. Leader of Opposition Chaudhry Zaheeruddin commenting on this said that this resolution was passed in the period when majority legislators of PML-Q had gone to offer prayers. The Resolution was moved by PML-Q forward Group MPA Raja Shaukat Aziz.
The MPA has been elected from PP-4. In the session, the House passed The Nazria-i-Pakistan Foundation (Repeal) Bill 2008. The Bill had been tabled by Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah. In two Call Attention Notices, one given by MPA Chaudhry Abdullah Yusuf and others regarding death of an accused in a village in Jaranwala, Rana Sanaullah Law Minister averred that inquiry was being conducted in the matter.
On the other Call Attention Notice given by MPA Mian Tariq Mahmood regarding killing of three policemen and one man of qabza group in Sadr Kharian, Rana Sana Ullah dilated that 16 of the accused out of 29 had been arrested.
In the question period Raja Riaz Senior Minister answering to a query said that with the cost of Rs 28.2 million in 2004, extension was made in rally minors in Khanewal Division. He said this was done under the programme of extension and remodelling of canals.
On a question from a legislator, Minister Irrigation regarding putting of sewerage water in Lahore canal at places said that it was incorrect, however, he pointed that until 2007 at 40 places sewerage water was pouring in Lahore Branch Canal. He said since 2008 beginning, sewerage line had been built on both sides of canal from Harbans Pura to Mogulpura by Wasa.
Regarding construction of mausoleum of Baba Bulleh Shah (AR) Auqaf Minister said that he would himself go there to look at the situation. He said construction work there commenced in January 2004 and the work had been completed incurring cost Rs 14,725,826. Two Privilege Motions presented in the House were kept in pending and two Adjournment motions were disposed off by the Chair in the session. The House was later adjourned till 9 a m Friday by the Chair.
