Leader of the House in the Senate, Raza Rabbani, on Friday said the ruling coalition has got more than enough number of parliamentarians required for impeachment of President Musharraf, and the government did not need resorting to cheap tactics of horse trading.
Responding to allegations of horse trading levelled by Mushahid Hussain in the Senate, he said that it would be President Musharraf and his marginalised supporters to base their strategy on such cheap tactics.
"Musharraf will be impeached in a Constitutional manner," he said while winding up the debate as the house echoed with the demand from the government to rescind the National Reconciliation Ordinance before Musharraf's impeachment.
Earlier, Mushahid and some other senators from the PML (Q) said that they would defend the President. "We have no fears, and will fight," he said. He accused the PPP-led coalition of having started horse trading to make possible impeachment of the President.
He said that there were no corruption charges against Musharraf. "He (President) is the only leader who has no bank balance in foreign countries." Mushahid supported the proposal floated by PML (Q) senator Waseem Sajjad and ANP Muhammad Adeel of making the intelligence apparatus answerable to parliament. However, the senator called for co-ordination of intelligence gathering so that the government should be in a better position of decision making.
